Fiji Ocean Swim Series Expands
The 2011 Fiji Ocean Swim Series has expanded to 9 events with the inclusion of an extra event to be held at Uprising Beach Resort Pacific Harbour on Saturday 4th June.
The first four events in the series have proved popular with local club and fitness swimmers venturing into the ocean and trying longer open water events as well as a few overseas swimmers combining a short holiday with the chance to take part in an ocean race in some of the world's most beautiful waters. More overseas entries are already in for the Fiji Ocean Swim Series events in May, July, August and October.
The format for the series is a choice of 1km, 2.5km and 5km all held on the same day. The final Series event will be the Fiji Ocean Swim In October where there will be a choice of 1.5km or 3km on Saturday 29th and 10km on Sunday 30th
The first four 5km races in the series also doubled as trial events for Fiji Swim squad members aiming to qualify for the 5km Open Water event at the Pacific Games to be held in Noumea in September with the team to be announced shortly.
The series has given many local junior swimmers in Fiji the opportunity to try swimming in the ocean for the first time.
The extra event in June was by popular local demand and will give Fiji Open Water Team swimmers, as well as the growing number of junior and not so junior ocean swimming enthusiasts the chance to further hone their open water skills.
Judging from the enthusiasm and healthy competition seen so far, distance swimming among Fiji's club swimmers has a bright future

Our Swim Safaris are exclusive guided swim, adventure and cultural experiences in some of the more remote and beautiful places in the Pacific.
Itineraries will vary with new swims in Yasawa Islands for the Fiji Safari, and on Aniwa and Tanna for the Vanuatu Safari.
